All Things Potty Training

Overwhelmed with potty training options, and feeling like it’s more complicated than it should be?

When it was time to start to potty-training my first child I knew there was a lot of resources, but I wasn’t sure where to start. When going over my options I could research online, purchase a book, or purchase a course. With the books I always felt that they were very “if you don’t do every step then it won’t work”. EVEN when you DID follow every step there still was a chance that it wouldn’t work. When I started to look up different ways to teach them online I became very overwhelmed. By the time I went through both of those options I thought I would try my way before I go the course route.

Soo…. What worked for us?

Letting her take her time!

What do I mean by that?

I started to grab everything she would need for potty training when I started to see signs that she was ready(around 2), but even then I didn’t jump right into it. I let her tell me. The supplies provided the motivation (toys), and everything she needed was right there when she was ready to use them. I would remind her that there is a bucket of toys that I would put on the top shelf of a kitchen cabinet I know she can’t ever reach (trust me she has tried… a lot…. ) and as soon as she goes *Pee* or *Poop* she would be able to pick ONE toy of whatever she wanted.

We had a week of trying to just get the toys or wanting one for no reason, but after that week she didn’t ask again I would just remind her from time to time that when she’s ready the toys were ready for her too.

One day (when she just turned 3) she was playing and ran to the bathroom. I could tell that she wanted to go to the bathroom, and she’s the type of child who will feel pressured it I hoover over her (girl same) so I just listened from outside of the room to see if she needed help. For minutes later she calls me over as she’s sitting there so happy and asking for a toy.

She had accidents for around a week (when she would sleep or be playing and forget), but she was golden after that!!
